Abinader rejects early reelection talks
Dominican President Luis Abinader denied that reelection is being discussed in the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and denied that it is a matter for debate at this time.
At the same time, the president described as irresponsible and foolish, to speak at the current times of re-election in this country, at times of a pandemic, referring to COVID-19.
“This is not a matter for debate, neither in the government nor in the party”, said the President of the Dominican Republic.
The statements of President Abinader were given in an interview conducted by the team of communicators at the end of the start of the 2021 rice harvest, in the Angelita community, in Cotuí, which he led.
By the end of this harvest year, he pointed out, it is expected to reach 7.6 million quintals, which would mean a significant increase compared to what was achieved in the past period, the year of the pandemic, which represented about 6.8 million quintals collected in the spring of that year.
He said that the Government guarantees the protection that national producers deserve, as well as the maximum quality in the products that are exported abroad because they are one of the best letters of presentation globally.
Abinader said that for the Dominicans rice is the main food crop, and on which between 250 and 300 thousand people directly depend who intervene in the entire immediate production process.
“It is irresponsible for this country to be talking about reelection, with only eight months since we came to the government, with a crisis and a pandemic. He defined it as something illogical to take revenge on this issue at a time when the country must be focused on defeating the pandemic and recovering economic stability.
The head of state affirmed that in the past meeting with the members of the Political Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), held on Sunday in the capital, “that was not even mentioned.”
Similarly, he clarified that he will send a letter to the president of the PRM, José Ignacio Paliza, so that this issue is not touched on in any of the party’s meetings. “When the time comes, it will be discussed”, added the president.
In the same terms, Abinader disavowed any leader to address the topic and took the opportunity to reiterate that the creation of jobs and the health of Dominicans are the priority points on the agenda of this administration.
“The only thing that has to be under discussion in the PRM government is to fulfill the promise that we made and lead this country to get it out of the pandemic, relaunch it and create jobs, along with the health of the Dominicans and carry out the reforms that this country needs to move forward ”, reiterated the president.
