Abinader breaks the silence and runs for re-election
President Luis Abinader announced yesterday, through a message to the nation, his decision to re-run for the presidential elections next year, 2024.
In a video broadcast on various social networks, the president sent a message to the country explaining a series of reasons that led him to aspire to a new government administration starting in 2024.
Likewise, he highlighted the challenges that are still pending and to maintain an “honesty policy.”
“After deep reflection, I understood that the country is above my family or personal tranquility; That is why I announce today my decision to participate in the internal elections of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) to be its candidate for the presidency of the Republic in the 2024 elections,” Abinader announced, in a message of just over two minutes, in which he points out several achievements obtained during his administration.
In the video, Abinader begins with a rhetorical question: “What was the claim that made you leave?” The answer: “Honesty,” a word that becomes the axis of his message that he repeats several times.

“The reason that brought us here is the legacy that I strive to honor daily. The best policy because it preserves our democracy is honesty”, affirmed the president.
He pointed out that it was honesty that guaranteed that, at the time of the appointments, he placed an independent Public Ministry, as well as the efforts to commit to working to get ahead of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Do you remember how we were three years ago? Deserted streets, closed businesses, and everyone confined at home; there was uncertainty, but in the face of each challenge, we maintained a firm will, and our hope never faded,” declared the head of state.
In a row, he specified that “honesty won the citizen’s trust; That confidence gave me the determination to work tirelessly to obtain vaccines when almost no country was able to get them, reopen tourism and reactivate economic growth that allowed the lost jobs to be recovered.

Also, I mention the effects of the unexpected war between Ukraine and Russia, which led to the determination to “double social assistance to protect your family’s budget.”
He argued that during his current term, his government built works in all the communities, handed over property and housing titles, and “we improved public transportation and guaranteed health insurance to every Dominican and defended our sovereignty.”
Given all this, the president stated: “In a few months, you will have to choose if you prefer to continue with more honesty in politics. I know your answer because I know you; you are part of a noble and decent people; you know that this is not the time to go back.”
Following this, Abinader announced his decision to participate in the internal process of the PRM, the political organization to which he belongs, to seek the presidential candidacy ahead of the 2024 electoral process.
“There are still challenges to face, opportunities to seize, and changes to be made. I want us to continue building on our achievements together, working with the same enthusiasm and identity as always. Let’s continue to believe in the power of honesty,” concluded the president.
Despite the expectations that arose around the possibility that his re-nomination message would be broadcast on August 16, the president advanced his announcement through the video on social networks.
