Dominican Republic govt seeks complete state audit
Santo Domingo. – The administrative minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, warned that audits will be carried out in all State institutions.
In the same way, he explained that the decisions made by the Danilo Medina administration in the transition period will be reviewed to determine if those that are contrary to law are maintained or revoked.
“When a new government takes over, surveys and reviews are made, statements and also some decisions that were made in a transition time are audited, it necessarily forces us to review them one by one to see the degree of opportunity they have and the reasons that motivated those decisions”, he said.
He stressed that President Luis Abinader gave the attorney Miriam Germán total independence and that her appointment is the first step on the road to building an independent justice system.
In that sense, they hope that the new Attorney General will act to break the structures that the outgoing government forged in search of impunity.
“In the Public Ministry, there are structures that must be overcome, which you know. Structures that were forged to be the image and likeness of the outgoing government and we want and the Dominican people want independent justice and the first link is the Attorney General’s Office and then it will be required that the high courts, within the constitutional framework, also be produced changes of this nature that push us more towards the independence of these bodies so that there is no protected but also persecuted for reasons exclusively of politics. That justice is independent,” he said.
