United States praises Abinader for promoting government transparency and safety
The United States praised the changes carried out by the government of Luis Abinader towards greater transparency and its desire to consolidate them for future generations. At the same time, they expressed to President Luis Abinader their willingness to be his ally in this effort.
Speaking on behalf of the US government, the charge d’affaires of the US embassy in the country, Robert Thomas, said that these changes have the potential to be transformative for the Dominican Republic.
“Our team from the United States Embassy is here today because we want to be your partner in this effort”, said the diplomat.
Thomas applauded the commitment of President Abinader’s government to the independence of the Chamber of Accounts and highlighted the transparency of the selection process for the new board of directors.
His assessment was expressed in an event where the governments of the Dominican Republic and the United States began, with the participation of President Abinader, a high-level dialogue on institutional reforms, which includes ratification and extension of agreements.
Through the Letter of Agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic and the Department of State of the United States, the American Embassy in Santo Domingo will deliver 6.6 million dollars for the reform of the National Police.
The agreements were signed by the Vice Minister of Foreign Relations, Rubén Silié, and Robert Thomas at the National Palace.
Abinader values support
President Abinader referred to the good harmony between the US and Dominican administrations, which find citizen security a common element, to which they pay the greatest attention and, on which, he considers necessary collaboration at the highest level.
He expressed gratitude for the gesture because of the importance for the Government to complete the police reform as soon as possible.
The head of State argued that the success of an effective citizen security system gives rise to the guarantees of peace and freedom of the peoples.
He reaffirmed that the Dominican Republic will be a country for coexistence and respect for individual rights, economic growth, and the development of families and their life projects.
The Head of State also highlighted the importance of the National Security Plan that he presented a few weeks ago and of his subsequent commission as an advance in that line on which the Government wants to work.
“With the formalization of this working group, we took the first step towards the long-awaited transformation and comprehensive professionalization of our National Police,” he said.
He meant that he firmly believes that citizen security is a nuclear element for all democracy and that the Dominican people deserve to live in peace and freedom.
President Abinader explained that the United States, in addition to supporting the reform of the Police, also supports initiatives in the fight against corruption, improving transparency and citizen security.
He considered that relations between the country and the United States of America are going through a great moment when mutual cooperation is strengthened by the actions undertaken by the governments of both nations in pursuit of the development of the peoples.
Also, for the growth of economies and the strengthening of democratic systems.
