Nopublic officials and little presence of private sector leaders, the monthly lunch of the American Chamber of Commerce (Amchamdr) began, with the presentation of Robert Tomas, business manager of the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
The event was convened at noon, but after 1:20 in the afternoon the stage only had the presence of the members of the Amchamdr Board of Directors and collaborators of some companies sponsoring the lunch and the American Embassy .
The meeting held in the Garden Tent room at the El Embajador hotel did not have an influx of people sharing prior to the central exhibition.
The absence of the president of the Industry Association of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) was notorious.
Earlier, the president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), Pedro Brache, assured that he would not attend the event due to previous commitments in the Ministry of Labor.
“We by chance have a lunch at the Ministry of Labor that had been planned long before. It is not a boycott, far from it, we are members of the American Chamber of Commerce where I have been director and we support all their activities,” Brache reported.
Some of the guests were employees of some companies that participate in the monthly lunch.
Celso Marranzini called on the business sector not to attend the American Chamber of Commerce luncheon with the US business manager Robert Thomas, on the occasion of Thanksgiving in protest of interference in the immigration issue.
“My recommendation to CONEP and AIRD (Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic) is not to attend lunch in protest of interference and audacity,” said the businessman and government official.
