Senator denounces Haitians get visas despite closed DR consulates

The senator of San Cristóbal for the Fuerza del Pueblo party, Franklin Rodríguez, denounced that visas have been fraudulently issued from the Dominican consulate in Haiti to 99% of Haitians applicants from 2015 to date.
The legislator explained in a heated tone that some 726,300 visas have been granted since 2015, equivalent to more than US$64 million, a figure that represents a “great” and “juicy” business.
“As of yesterday they were still issuing visas and the offices are closed due to an announcement from the Foreign Ministry,” argued the senator.
He strongly requested that the Senate of the Republic designate a commission to verify this situation and that it not go unnoticed. In this sense, he presented a resolution to act against this evil.
Rodríguez said that he supports the border wall one hundred percent.
The congressman’s request was accepted by the president of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, who forwarded it to the Foreign Relations Commission
Dionis Sánchez, spokesman for the senators of the Fuerza del Pueblo, said that, although he supports the government’s repatriation policies, he assured that the sale of visas is even done virtually or by courier service.
The senator for Pedernales assured that those who are sold the visa are not investigated and neither are they looking to see if they have identity documents.
“If they take ten illegals out of the Dominican Republic and then give visas to one hundred, then nothing is being done,” Sánchez clarified.
In the same way, the parliamentarian Antonio Marte, stated that this visa business does not come from now on. He stated that he has been denouncing the situation for many years.
