COVID-19 update: 89,867 people infected and 28 more deaths

Santo Domingo. – The death toll in the Dominican Republic from the coronavirus increased this Friday to 1,533 with 28 new confirmed deaths, while those infected total 89,867, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
In the last 24 hours, 4,382 PCR tests were processed, of which 857 were positive. 47% (408) of the new cases were registered in Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago province, demarcations that continue to be the epicenter of the pandemic in the country.
Active cases decreased. For this Friday, August 21, 29,202 cases were reported, 569 less than those notified yesterday. On those recovered, the authorities reported that 59,132 people have overcome the disease.
In addition, 339,860 PCR samples have been processed and 249,993 cases have been ruled out.
The positivity rate based on the samples processed in the last four weeks stands at 30.63% and the fatality rate at 1.71%.
