Dominican Republic decreases COVID-19 positivity rate for 77 days
The Ministry of Public Health reported that in the Dominican Republic the rate of positivity to COVID-19 maintains a persistent decrease for more than 77 days, which stands at 10.26 percent.
Dr. Ronald Skews, Director of Epidemiology (DIGEPI), also assured that in the country’s provinces this decrease is sustainable.
He said that among the provinces of the country with the highest positivity are: the National District with 171 new cases and positivity of 12.10 percent; La Romana with 12 new cases and positivity of 8.40 percent; San Cristóbal with 14 new cases and positivity of 8.87; San Pedro de Macorís with 21 new cases and 10.08 positivity, Santiago 20 new cases, and 12.97 percent positivity and finally Santo Domingo 79 new cases and 12.68 percent.
However, despite the fact that these indicators remain on a downward trend, the population must continue to take preventive measures responsibly.
“Although the figures are favorable, we cannot lower our guard so as not to create a third wave of the COVID-19 virus in the country, we must continue to comply with the provisions, such as the use of masks, alcohol gel, distancing, and going to the health center in case of symptoms such as fever, cough, and general discomfort”, said Skwes.
Since week eight there has been a significant decrease, where the values have remained around ten, and below.
Regarding hospital occupancy, the COVID-19 beds are maintained between 20 and 22 percent, beds of the Intensive Care Units (ICU), in the last 24 hours it is 32 percent, with 156 occupied out of a total of 492 and 24 percent of the fans are in use, 94 out of 387.
Of the total evidence processed in the last 24 hours, 379 new cases resulted. About 3,908 tests were PCR and 535 antigenic. The test record is 1,360,208, which represents 130,182 per million people, and of those 1,100,569 have been discarded. Of the total registry of cases 259,639 detected, there are 38,621 active and 217,613 recovered.
In bulletin 392, three deaths were reported, two occurred in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths is 3,405 for a fatality of 1.31 percent and the mortality per million people is 325.88.
Among the risk groups, contagion continues to increase in people under 20 years of age, in this age range 28,432 cases of coronavirus are reported. 742 health staff have become ill and 360 pregnant women have also acquired the virus.
Hypertensive and diabetic people remain the main comorbidity factors. Of the total deaths from COVID-19, 29.63 percent were hypertensive and 18.68, diabetic.
