Dominican corruption prosecutor: “We don’t have time for distractions”
The head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho, responded to the statements of the Association of Dominican Judges for Democracy (Judemo) that accuse the Public Ministry of using “populist practices” and “injurious ” against him.
Camacho pointed out that from the direction of the persecuting body all the time is used to “push the borders of impunity and recover the state treasury”, so they do not “have time for distractions.”
“All the time we have we have to prosecute corruption… All the time we have, we have to recover the money that has been diverted from the treasury, and that’s where we are… we don’t have time for distractions,” he said.
Yesterday, the Association of Judges issued a statement rejecting the statements made by prosecutors Wilson Camacho; Osvaldo Bonilla, prosecutor of Santiago, and the prosecutor of the Duarte province, Smailey RodrÃguez, reacted after variations were issued in the preventive detention measures of several involved in corruption cases.
The document, under the signature of the entity’s president, Elka M. Reyes Olivo, qualified that these “insulting expressions against members of the Judiciary are due to populist practices.”
