Abinader requests 45 more days of State of Emergency
President Luis Abinader asked the National Congress for a new extension, for another 45 days, of the state of emergency, under the justification of continuing with special measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country.
“Thanks to the curfew and the other social distancing measures adopted during the State of Emergency, it has been possible to exercise control over the disease, which is why it is necessary to maintain and modulate them while ensuring a gradual and safe economic reopening”, points out President Luis Abinader as his main motivation.
The document also indicates that the maintenance of these special measures together with the advancement of the special vaccination day is what has managed to “control” the level of contagion.
The current state of emergency expires on August 27th and with this new request, there are already nine requests made during the presidency of Luis Abinader.
It is recalled that currently the National District and La Altagracia province are the only areas in which the curfew imposed to control the contagion of COVID-19 was removed.
