Dominican Minister of Education receives a death threat
The Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, stated that he received a death threat with just three months at the head of the entity.
“A serious review of what has happened in the Minerd must be done, personally, I even received a threat…” said the official.
During an interview granted to the program El Día, a television program that is broadcast daily on Telesistema, Hernández said that the death threat was sent to him through a third party.
“You have to shoot the Chinese”, they told him. Without specifying any names, the minister said that he learned of the threat a little over a month ago and that he immediately passed it on to the National Department of Investigations (DNI).
Hernández, who was appointed to that position on August 3rd, replacing Roberto Fulcar, also said that in the ministry “there are many things to investigate.”
“In the ministry there are many problems, I cannot say that they are mafia structures, I can only say that there are many contracts that are improper, that many things have been done,” he said.
He also pointed out that the institution currently has a team of lawyers that is investigating all the bids that have been made in the Minerd, trying to determine which of all the contracts have been fulfilled and which have not.
Likewise, he said that the ministry’s problems in administrative matters absorb the entity’s time to focus on the quality of education.
“The time that one has to dedicate in the Ministry to Education has to be dedicated to issues that are conjunctural, so that type of question is what must be resolved in order to be able to dedicate oneself to the solutions that are fundamental in the Ministry,” he explained. .
