Abinader relaunches the Santo Domingo Oeste Industrial District park
President Luis Abinader visited the facilities of the Santo Domingo Oeste Industrial District (DISDO) for its relaunch and support of their operations, thus responding to the objective of creating more jobs in the Dominican Republic.
“We have to prepare to do a sustainable relaunch. We are going to make the investments in the place and in two to three months, the necessary titles for financing will come out”, said the head of state.
Abinader explained that since 2004, when the park came into operation, only about twelve plants have been installed that offer about 1,200 jobs, so his visit seeks to make the necessary arrangements with the industrialists to increase the number and arrive in a few years to about 30,000 jobs.
He considered that the goal can be achieved with the help of the Government and with the collaboration of the industrial sector.
Also, the interest of his government to creates patronage with the industrialists to work hand in hand with ProIndustria, in order to make sustainable investments and maintain the structures.
Sandra Portela, president of the Association of Companies of the Industrial District of Santo Domingo Oeste (AEDISDO), presented the details of the park and the needs to guarantee the growth of the national industry.
Portela cited among the benefits of the conditioning of DISDO, the creation of clusters, joint export between companies; lower costs by having common services. Also, increase national production and exports; generation of 30,125 jobs; improvement of the environment, by removing industries from the city and the distribution of national wealth.
In addition, she assured that 90% of the authorized land is sold to the industrial sector.
Among the requirements to put the park into operation at full capacity are the approval of contracts by the Senate to issue property titles; construction of perimeter fence; reconstruction of electrical substation; reduced toll rate for employees, among others.
Industries as a national priority
DISDO is the first and only Industrial District in our country where a total of 12 clusters converge and operate, including flour, textile, metalworking, furniture, graphics, among others.
Last October and through Decree 588-20, President Luis Abinader declared industrialization a national priority, in order to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of the industrial sector and free zones.
In addition, the Presidential Table for Industrialization was created to work together, overcome historical problems and create an industrial ecosystem that allows the Dominican Republic to be consolidated as an industrial power in the Americas.
