Authorities provide frequencies to domestic airports and heliports
The Airport Department (DA) and the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) agreed to start the process to provide VHF air frequencies to domestic airports and heliports in the country, which currently lack such communication.
The agreement was signed between Nelson Arroyo, president of Indotel, and Víctor Pichardo, executive director of the DA, at the headquarters of the latter institution.
“For example, at the moment, for heliports to authorize landing or take-off, they have to do it from Joaquín Balaguer (El Higüero) or Las Américas airport, and what we are looking for is that it be done from the terminal itself, as part of the modernization and transformation of the national airport system”, Pichardo reported through a statement.
The official appreciated the receptivity and willingness expressed by the president of Indotel for this project, through which they will provide technological support.
On his side, Arroyo assured that the institution he directs will give the necessary support to the initiative, which translates into a benefit for the country.
The frequency assignment request includes the Santo Domingo, Barahona, and Santiago heliports, as well as the Cabo Rojo domestic airport, Pedernales.
With these frequencies, ground-air communication is established between aircraft and air traffic controllers, thereby ensuring operational safety.
