Abinader recognizes a new outbreak of COVID-19 in Santo Domingo
Dominican President Luis Abinader acknowledged that the Greater Santo Domingo registers a new outbreak of COVID-19 cases, but denied that the health system was on the verge of collapse.
He emphasized that the increase in the indicators is only registered in Greater Santo Domingo, so the rest of the country is under control. “That is reality, and you have to report with a sense of reality”, he told journalists who questioned him.
In response to these events, Abinader ordered the immediate incorporation of the beds in the intensive care units (ICU) and intermediate of the areas inaugurated in the Luis Eduardo Aybar Sanitary City to receive covid-19 patients.
In that center, a total of 60 beds will be included, additional to those that were in operation.
He called on the entire Dominican population to continue taking care of themselves and maintaining physical distance, at the same time going to get vaccinated.
32% of the beds for patients with coronavirus are occupied, and 57% of the ICUs throughout the country, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health.
Reopening of classes
In another order, President Abinader assured that the opening of face-to-face classes will continue gradually, with the necessary distancing.
He said that attendance at classes will continue to be blended and voluntary. “Whoever wants to take his son takes it and he who doesn’t want to doesn’t take it,” he added.
