Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader assured that the Government will create the conditions to establish a favorable climate for investment and thus urge the private sector to invest in the development of the economy and infrastructure in the country.
Abinader spoke in the framework of the signing of the regulations for the application of Public-Private Partnerships, in an act held at the National Palace, through which the Government intends to promote the development of works of important social interest.
“To guarantee the success of Public-Private alliances, it is necessary to develop an institutional framework that allows the signing of these contracts to be carried out in a transparent manner, guaranteeing a favorable investment climate and legal security, which attracts local and foreign capital to stimulate the development of the economy and infrastructure in the country ”, the president pointed out.
Abinader revealed that on August 25, the National Council of Public-Private Partnerships prioritized the sectors of road, air and maritime transport, water, health, education, energy, agriculture, housing, tourism, international trade, urban mobility, telecommunications, security citizen and national defense.
He said that these sectors “are of vital importance since they contribute to increasing the quality of life of our citizens while promoting economic development.”
He stressed that each alliance must strengthen the social interest in order to achieve the strengthening of the country and the closing of the existing gaps in terms of the quality of life of all citizens.
Among the works that the Government is most interested in developing in the immediate future is the Ámbar highway, which will go from Santiago to Puerto Plata in a 25-minute journey; the remodeling and expansion of the port of Manzanillo, also highlighted its great interest in the tourist development of Pedernales.
Abinader considered that the country faces a large infrastructure gap, which can be closed through Public-Private partnerships.
“The private sector plays a crucial role in the productive development of a country; in particular the Dominican private sector with its entrepreneurs and professionals of the highest level who have always been a key factor in the economic dynamism of the Dominican Republic”, he said.
The president urged the private sector to present initiatives that contribute to the productive development of the country, with the aim of improving the living conditions of Dominicans.
Pedro Brache, president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), described the initiative as positive and considered that this agreement has the potential to streamline processes.
The activity carried out in the Las Cariástides room of the National Palace, also had the presence of the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña; the Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarulla; the Administrative Officer of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, as well as other officials and representatives of the business sector.
