Dominican Republic registers new record of deaths from COVID-19 in one day

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic registered a new record of deaths in one day from COVID-19, surpassing the 30 cases reported on August 8th, which remained the highest number of deaths since the start of the pandemic.

With 36 deaths in the last 24 hours, the list adds 1,801 deceased people, according to the daily balance of the Ministry of Public Health that places the fatality rate at 1.86%.

In addition, 1,002 new cases were reported, for a cumulative of 96,629 infected. Since August 19th the daily number of new positives did not exceed a thousand cases.

The information is contained in bulletin # 168 issued this September 3rd, which numbers 23,957 active cases and 70,871 the list of recovered patients.

Although on April 12th Public Health reported 38 deaths, the former Minister of Public Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, explained that corresponded to a late report of the health centers.

In the last 24 hours, the laboratories processed 5,157 PCR tests, of which 3,808 were performed for the first time on the same number of patients and 1,349 on people who want to confirm whether they have overcome the disease. To date, 283,300 cases of coronavirus have been ruled out.

Of the 23,815 active cases, 7,518 are in hospital isolation and 16,297 are in home isolation.

Most of the confirmed cases are distributed in five provinces, being the National District the most affected demarcation with an accumulated of 27,396 cases (175 new in the last 24 hours), followed by Santo Domingo that registers 20,542 cases (109 new), Santiago with 10,762 (274 new), San Cristóbal with 3,611 (15 new), and La Vega with 3,460 (7 new).

The positivity based on the samples processed in the last 4 weeks is 27.98%.

Deceased

Of the deaths that were registered yesterday, eight were notified in Santiago, four in San Cristóbal, four in San Pedro de Macorís, four in San Juan, two in Peravia, two in the National District and one in Azua, Duarte , El Seibo, Espaillat, La Romana, La Vega, Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Hermanas Mirabal, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor and Santo Domingo, respectively.

However, due to the place of residence, most of the deaths have been registered in the Santo Domingo province, which has a cumulative 412 deaths, 330 in the National District, 250 in Santiago, 107 in Duarte, and 103 in San Cristóbal.

In ICU

The number of people who are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) accounts for 246.

In addition, more than 7,300 are in hospital isolation and another 20,844 in home isolation.
