Two tourists killed and dozens injured in serious accident in Bávaro
A bus with 49 tourists on board suffered an accident this Thursday morning on a section of the Miches-Bávaro highway (Punta Cana, Dominican Republic).
As confirmed by the Dominican authorities, there are at least a dozen critically injured and two people have died.
According to local sources, the bus was transporting tourists for an excursion when a truck crossed its path. The bus driver, trying to avoid a collision with both the truck and the adjoining gas station, made a sudden maneuver, causing the bus to overturn and roll several times.
The authorities have activated the emergency protocols and at least 47 people have already been transferred to different health centers in the area. A notice to promote blood donation has also begun to circulate among the local population.
Although the identity of the tourists involved in the accident has not yet been confirmed, it is known that they are of Argentine, Brazilian and Chilean nationality.
The country’s Tourism Minister, David Collado, learned of the incident while participating in an act in Playa Caleta, La Romana, who assured that everyone in the Cabinet is “dismayed.”
He reported that he is going to the place immediately and explained that the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, has already sent the director of Civil Defense and that they have helicopters on site to provide any support.
Later, Collado went to the IMG Hospital in Punta Cana, where approximately 15 of the tourists who were injured received medical attention, according to information from the newspaper Noticias SIN.
