State tourism promotion contracts now under review
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, announced that all contracts for the international promotion of the country as a tourist destination are subject to review in order to make them more transparent and the product of international tenders.
Collado affirmed that the adjustments made to the international promotion of the Dominican Republic saved 900 million pesos since last August to date.
The official revealed that as part of those adjustments, the government ended commercial operations with a United States international agency, which for 16 years was in charge of promoting the country, which was not identified.
“On March 30, we informed the agency in the United States, which had been promoting the country’s international promotion for 16 years, that we were going to finalize the contract to make way for a tender, thus guaranteeing transparency in the process”, said Collado on a video posted on Twitter.
He announced that after the termination of that contract, an international tender will be held to choose a new company that promotes the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination in the United States.
“That’s our way of working”, he added in the video.
Collado stressed that since he started in the Ministry, he knew the great challenge of managing tourism in the midst of a pandemic and doing it with transparency.
“That is why we have begun to renegotiate the inherited international promotion contracts, saving the country 900 million pesos,” he said.
