Government works on the Pedernales International Airport project
The Airport Department (DA) will initiate the process of technical advice and support for the preparation of the preliminary project for the construction of the Pedernales International Airport to the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), for the tourism and economic development of the south region.
In a visit made by a team from the DGAPP, headed by its owner, Sigmund Freund, to the director of the DA, Víctor Pichardo, the complete Pedernales Development project was presented.
The construction of the International Airport of that province was addressed as a central issue, as well as the scope of the infrastructure to be developed, the creation of a work table, and the support of the institution in the various areas of the sector.
At the meeting, Pichardo reaffirmed the support of the Airport Department for the project in Pedernales and took the opportunity to highlight the plans that the institution has for the renovation of the domestic airport of “Cabo Rojo”, as a way to provisionally respond to the immediate needs of investors who wish to settle in the province.
“In the development of the international airport, we, with a reasonable minimum investment, have contemplated the issue of the control towers of the domestic Cabo Rojo airport, and the construction of a small terminal with a helicopter platform, including coordination with the Air Force”, Pichardo said.
Meanwhile, the director of the DGAPP, Sigmund Freund, stressed that for the institution it is of great interest to maintain a close relationship with the different state institutions that intervene in the Pedernales Development project, and recognized the importance of the accompaniment and leadership of the Department Airport to achieve the expected success with this project and the development of that demarcation.
“As leaders in this area of airport infrastructure, it is important for us to work hand in hand with you through a work table, where we can collaborate and jointly execute all the steps necessary to achieve, in this case, the construction of the Pedernales International Airport”,said Freund.
During the meeting, Pichardo congratulated the Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships for the work they carry out, after noting that “in just six months the project is advanced, taking into account the repeated interest expressed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to let said province develop”.
At the meeting, held at the DA headquarters, Pichardo was accompanied by the technical director, Christiern Broberg, the director of Planning and Development, Maricarmen Méndez, the legal director, Leandro Santana, the administrative director, Miguel Heredia, and those in charge of Infrastructure, Alfredo Aybar and Supervision, Rafael Duarte.
