Airlines request routes expansion to the Dominican Republic
The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) announced that several airlines requested to increase their air operations, in order to offer more routes to passengers who will travel to and from the Dominican Republic this summer 2021.
During the second ordinary meeting in April, the plenary session of the JAC heard the request for Amendment to Frontier Airlines Operating Permit No. 88, for the inclusion of the San Juan, Puerto Rico / Punta Cana / San Juan, Puerto route. Rich. Air operations are scheduled to begin in June this year, in A-320 aircraft, with a capacity of 186 seats, with an itinerary of three flights a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
In the same way, the plenary session of the JAC heard the request for Amendment to the Operation Permit No. 87 of the airline Aerorep República (COPA Airlines Colombia), for the inclusion of the Medellín / Punta Cana / Medellín route, they would start in the same way the next June in aircraft B-737-800, with capacity for 186 passengers.
The operations requested by Aerorep República would have a program of two flights a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays to offer regular air transport services for passengers, cargo, and mail.
During the celebration of the second ordinary assembly this month, Marte Piantini, stated that the fact that these airlines are requesting new operating permits, to increase the number of flights and their operational capacity, is an indicator of the importance as a tourist destination. that the Dominican Republic has and maintains in the Caribbean.
“With the increase in the weekly frequencies of these two airlines in their air operations, our country would be receiving a contribution of 6,087 new monthly average passengers. It is precisely the commitment that the government of President Luis Abinader has assumed to boost the Dominican economy through our tourism as leaders of the region”, said Marte Piantini.
The Civil Aviation Board meets again in 15 days to approved or deny the requests, as established by Law 491-06 of Civil Aviation of the Dominican Republic.
Chaired by José E. Marte Piantini, the Board is made up of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Tourism, the Legal Consultant of the Executive Branch, the Director-General of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC); the Executive Director of the Airport Department.
The Chief of the Air Force (FARD), the Director-General of the Specialized Corps for Airport Security and Civil Aviation (CESAC) are also part of it; Fernando Hiram Taveres, Nasim Antonio Yapor Alba, and Andrés R. Marranzini Grullón, as representatives of the Private Sector and Paola Plá Puello, the current secretary of the JAC.
