Abinader gears 90 million investment to the Santo Domingo Colonial Zone
President Luis Abinader started the second stage of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo Tourism Promotion Program, during an activity that included a tour of different places in this historic area.
“We are carrying out many projects that the country needs for the economic relaunch, the time has come for the Colonial City,” said the Head of State.
The president assured that in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism and the Mayor’s Office of the National District “we are going to make this the best colonial city in all of Latin America”.
The project is expected to be executed over a period of six years, with financing of 90 million dollars by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), an entity that also disbursed 30 million dollars that was used during the first stage.
It is carried out by the Ministry of Tourism, in coordination with the Mayor’s Office of the National District and the Ministry of Culture, to give continuity to the rehabilitation of the city, both in its cultural and tourist aspects, as well as in its economic and urban aspects.
President Abinader was accompanied by the Ministers of Tourism, David Collado; of Culture, Carmen Heredia, and the administrative officer of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza, as well as the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía.
Also by the director of the Police, Major General Edward Sánchez; the director of the Specialized Tourist Security Corps (Cestur), General Juan Torres Robiou; the president of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores), Rafael Blanco, and the representative of the IDB in the country Miguel Coronado.
“Today begins the resurgence of the colonial city under the leadership of the government of President Abinader”, said Collado while highlighting the boost given to tourism and the transparency with which the project is managed through the IDB.
Prior to the start of the formal ceremony, Abinader visited the Borgellá Palace where he held a private meeting and then began the tour from the Ozama Fortress.
