Dominican Sandy Alcántara won the National League Cy Young Award, given every year to the best pitchers in the Major Leagues.
This is the first Cy Young award for Alcántara, who is also the first native to win the award since Bartolo Colón did it in 2005 with the Los Angeles Angels.
The 2022 season was a successful one for the Miami Marlins right-hander, posting a 2.28 ERA in 228.2 innings pitched, in which he struck out 207 opponents.
Sandy Alcántara beat out Atlanta Braves lefty Max Fried and Los Angeles Dodgers star pitcher Julio Urías, who made up the shortlisted finalists for the award.
