With an emotional tribute to Albert Pujols, the third edition of Legends Day is celebrated this afternoon, organized by the National Federation of Professional Baseball Players.
Pujols is the central figure of the event, in which National League Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcántara will also receive his Juan Marichal Award trophy.
San Diego Padres star Juan Soto and Cooperstown greats Juan Marichal, David Ortiz and Pedro Martínez also take part in the ceremonies.
The executive director of Fenapepro, Vian Araujo, indicated that Nelson Cruz, Carlos Santana, Ketel Marte, Carlos Gómez and Freddy Peralta have also confirmed their presence.
Also, Emmanuel Clase, Camilo Doval, Hector Neris, Bryan Abreu, Framber Valdez,
Diego Castillo, Robinson Canó, Marcell Ozuna and Edwin Encarnación.
Likewise, Starling Marte, Wander Franco, Rodolfo Castro, Rodney Linares, Manny Acta, Plácido Polanco, Hanser Alberto, Bryan De La Cruz and Wellington Castillo. There are others that are still pending confirmation.
The third edition of the Game of Legends will be broadcast by Digital 15 and Telemicro Internacional, as well as by the digital platforms of DR Sport and the Leones del Escogido, as well as Fenapepro and De Último Minuto Media, among others.
Activities will also include a celebrity game and a home run derby. As an incentive for fans, there will be an area for signing autographs where the players will wear their Major League Baseball jacket and Game of Legends jacket.
The Major League Baseball Players Association and its director Tony Clark are supporting Legends Day.
Clark, who recently signed a five-year contract extension as the players’ top union leader, will be on hand at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal for the activities.
THE HOME RUN DERBY
The Dominican Republic’s all-time winter ball home run leader will headline a group of seven sluggers to battle it out in the Legends Day Home Run Derby, organized by the National Federation of Professional Baseball Players.
Juan Francisco, from the Gigantes del Cibao and with his 83 home runs, will lead the troop for the event to be held on December 4, from 5 p.m.
Along with Francisco, Mel Rojas, Wendell Rijo, Carlos Peguero, Orlando Calixte, Sandber Pimentel and Oscar González will participate in the Derby.
