Britcham celebrates its VIII British Polo Cup

SANTO DOMINGO. – The British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (BRITCHAM) celebrated the final of its 8th Annual British Polo Cup in Casa de Campo.
The winning team was Power Infrastructure, composed of the acclaimed polo player and Argentine champion Alejandro Muzzio, Bijai Sing, Modesto Constanz, and Miguel Mendoza, who won the cup by beating the the Casa de Campo team, which missed its player Leo Matos, who was replaced by 14-year-old Alexito Schad, son of player no. 4 from the same team.
The referee was Federico Martelli, who oversaw a game of exceptional plays. The tournament was organized jointly with Fernando Arata, director of the Polo de Casa de Campo. The activity included the parade of the Cavalry of the Armed Forces, and the children of the Hogar del Niño interpreted the notes of the national anthem.
“It was an event for the whole family where we awarded 8 cups, 1 MVP award (or best player), and a prize for the best polo pony, among other prizes”, expressed Amauris Vásquez, president of Britcham. He added that, even more importantly, the event supported an important cause in this edition, which included food trucks, drinks, a DJ, live music, and family games.
The British Chamber recognized outstanding polo players Dominicans who played in the first British Cup 33 years ago, such as Bijai Sing, Fernando González, Federico Schad, Ramón (Papo) Menéndez, Manuel José Baquero, Fernando Arredondo, Alfonso Paniagua, among others.
Likewise, it recognized Maureen de Tejeda and Anton Tejeda for supporting the British Chamber and Polo.
The event gathered 2.5 million pesos to support the needs of the children through the Hogar del Niño and Save the Children Dominican Republic, which focuses on developing reading and comprehension skills in 1st-grade children to 4th grade.
This education program also collaborates with families and schools to guarantee the reintegration of all children into the educational system.
