Government ready to build an expressway from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana
The Dominican Republic government is ready to start building an expressway that will extend from Luperón Avenue in Santo Domingo to Punta Cana and includes a new bridge over the Ozama River and an overpass in Boca Chica.
According to the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascensión, the daily traffic of vehicles on the Las Américas highway will be through a marginal avenue that is already under construction exclusively for these purposes.
The official also detailed an ambitious program for the construction, reconstruction, and modernization of the national highway network, with new and modern ring roads and resurfacing nationwide.
Ascensión reported that more than twelve thousand engineers and professionals participate in the construction of more than 200 projects in execution with an investment of more than 2,000 million pesos.
“We have regionalized the investment program and interventions of the main highways for investments and as part of that policy we have already begun in the northern region the remodeling of the Duarte highway, and we are also intervening the roads that link different provinces with the tourist area from Monte Cristi”, he said.
He added that in the southern region “we are developing major road infrastructure works that will be built in the country in recent years, which is the Bani ring road.”
Ascensión explained that the entity is also working on solving legal conflicts to start the construction of the Azua ring road, which will connect that province with San Juan de la Maguana and Barahona in less time and distance and, though they, with the other demarcations of the border area.
The also Secretary of Organization of the Modern Revolutionary Party defended the transparency and honesty with which the Government manages and uses the resources of the State, noting that President Luis Abinader is a standard-bearer of these principles and that he carries them in his blood.
The Minister of Public Works assured that President Abinader is showing that he is a man of his word and that he fulfills his campaign promises.
Ascensión said that, within the framework of the development of his construction policy, President Abinader has scheduled to finish the unfinished works left by the past government administration and that many of these works have already been completed and inaugurated by the current president.
