Study finds a 5 percent growth in health services to international travelers
A preliminary study led by the Center for Medical Tourism Research (CMTR) has found that the Dominican Republic has sustained a 5% growth rate in the health services provided to international travelers.
The entity backs the findings in the BEA surveys from the United States Department of Commerce, which have also found that the country brought 22 million dollars for their healthcare services offered to US citizens.
The 5% growth has been sustained for the past 9 years, surpasses Costa Rica although is below the rates from Mexico and Colombia, both of which doubled the Dominican Republic.
Also, the studies carried by the CMTR, led by Dr. David Vequist, show data from cosmetic surgery trips as reported on RealSelf.com. The report says that over 70% of the reported pre-pandemic trips (N = 488) from Apr 2013 to May 2018 were to the DR.
The report, set for full publishing at the 5th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress on June 10th in Santo Domingo, indicates that the demographic profile from these 345 mommy makeovers is as follows:
