In seven days, 46 flight operations have been canceled from Russia
Some 46 flight operations from Russia to the Dominican Republic have been canceled by the Punta Cana International Airport, in La Altagracia province, this March after Russia’s violent invasion of Ukraine.
The director of Ground Operations, of the aforementioned airport terminal, Rafael Alberto Smith, explained that all the programs that the airlines had for this month of March to the country from Russia were canceled due to the situation.
He indicated that after the war between Russia and Ukraine, some 46 tourist flight operations from that destination have been suspended during this month of March by the Punta Cana International Airport.
He explained that those flights were scheduled to enter the country, bringing thousands of Russian tourists, who already had their tickets and reservations made to visit the Dominican Republic in March but due to the conflict they could not do so due to cancellations.
Regarding the resumption of flight operations from Russia, the Punta Cana executive said that so far everything is suspended until further notice from the authorities of the JAC Civil Aviation Board.
The main functions performed by the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) are: to propose to the Executive Branch the adoption of regulations related to the economic aspects of air transport. Dictate and modify resolutions on matters within its competence.
“We do not have a precise number of affected passengers, because it always depends on the occupancy capacity of the aircraft, which varies frequently,” said Rafael Alberto Smith, Director of Operations at the Punta Cana International Airport.
Among the Russian airlines that operate through the international airport of Punta Cana, in the province of La Altagracia, are Aeroflot, Azur Air, Coral Travel, Nordwind, PEGAS Touristik PegasFly, as well as Royal Flight.
The Punta Cana terminal is the airport that mobilizes the largest volume of tourists to the Dominican Republic, who come on charter and regular flights from different continents and countries of the world to vacation and enjoy its tourist attractions.
Some Russian airlines are carrying out operations from Punta Cana to Mexico, transporting hundreds of citizens of that country, who are stranded after the war situation between their country and Ukraine, in hotels in Bávaro and Punta Cana.
After the closure of airspace by many countries, there are thousands of stranded people waiting for a place to return from their destination.
In this context, Aeroflot announced that it will have three special repatriation flights for Russian citizens to their country, from Mexico and the Dominican Republic. This situation caused thousands of tourists to be stranded waiting for an available seat.
