Minister of Economy says the people’s health is the government’s priority

Santo Domingo. – The Minister of Economy, Planning, and Development, Miguel Ceara Hatton, affirmed that the Dominican Government has as its number one priority to guarantee the health of people, given the serious crisis that the COVID-19 coronavirus has generated in the country.
“COVID-19 has generated a serious crisis in the Dominican Republic, an economic crisis, but it is also a human crisis, it is a crisis of disease, health and the priority for our government is the health of the people, the economic problems we will be able to solve later ”, specified Ceara Hatton.
The Minister of Economy insisted that now the number one priority is to guarantee that the Dominican population has the necessary health, access to medicines, the number of doctors to face the pandemic, and the infrastructure of health centers to be able to get out of the situation generated by COVID-19.
“Then the economic issue will come,” Ceara Hatton said, referring to the government’s measures to address the health situation in the country. The official reiterated that the first thing is that no one dies due to lack of medical assistance “that is the number one priority.”
The government reported that the Public Health budget was increased from RD$ 52 billion to RD$ 66 billion to face the pandemic.
Also, the qualification and equipping of 10 laboratories in regional hospitals. They will also increase the number of PCR tests per day, from about 3,000 to more than 7,000, and speed up the delivery of results.
