The Tigres del Licey had a quality outing from star César Valdez and a home run by Ramón Hernández with the bases loaded in the third inning to defeat the Estrellas Orientales 4-1 on Friday, their sixth consecutive win in the Dominican Baseball League .
Valdez earned his fifth win of the season with six innings in which he allowed six hits and one run with six strikeouts. The setback was to Yenssy Díaz’s record after allowing three runs in two and a third innings.
In Santiago De Los Caballeros, Jerar Encarnación hit a two-run home run, Yairo Muñóz went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Geraldo Perdomo went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI for the Águilas’ victory. Cibaeñas 8-4 over the Leones del Escogido, who conceded their sixth straight defeat.
In La Romana, Major League player Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-4 with two RBIs produced, Kelvin Gutiérrez connected for 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Tito Polo went 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and one RBI and the Gigantes del Cibao beat the Toros del Este 9-7.
Tigres del Licey lead the circuit with a 29-13 record, followed by Águilas Cibaeñas (29-15), Gigantes del Cibao (22-21), Estrellas Orientales (19-24), Toros del Este (17-26) and Leones of the Chosen One (13-30).
