Punta Cana’s meeting rooms can hold 30 thousand assistants simultaneously
Frank Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana said that the development of Punta Cana enables the destinations to accommodate more than 30 thousand people in meetings and conventions.
During his participation in the opening of the ninth edition of the World Convention Forum – World Meetings Forum Summit (WMF), the tourism leader supported his remarks about Punta Cana based on the safety, quality, and attractive prices of its more than 42 thousand rooms and rooms for conventions and meetings, the connections of its international airport with more than 60 cities, including the most important in America and Europe.
Rainieri, who is also a member of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), explained that the 42 thousand rooms cover the entire range demanded by the tourism market and accommodations for all kinds of needs and demands. Another 2,000 are currently under construction.
Likewise, he assured that the destination offers “an ideal setting for meeting tourism due to its strategic location on the regional and world map, its air connectivity, the quality of its tourist infrastructure oriented to these activities, its hotel and extra-hotel offer and, above all, the safety of the environment”.
The businessman and also past president of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), also reported that the 47 hotels in the region offer meeting rooms of varying capacities. They all gather space to accommodate 21,555 people, which added to the 9,200 that convention centers can receive, create a capacity for 30,755 people.
The meeting offers includes five convention centers; two large ones for 3,000 and 3,600 people, one intermediate for 1,000, and two small ones for 500 and 700 people.
He valued Punta Cana’s air connectivity as an attraction for conventions, favored by the country’s strategic location in the center of the Caribbean, close to the east coast of the United States and Canada, and a medium distance from the North American west and the large markets of Europe.
“Taking 2019 as the last year prior to the effects of the pandemic, Dominican airports received 7.1 million passengers, of which 50% arrived through the Punta Cana International Airport. That same year, our country received 6.4 million passengers. tourists, of which 3.8 million, 57%, arrived through Punta Cana”, highlighted Rainieri.
“We get flights from 26 countries”, Rainieri said, most of them major tourism markets; routes operate with 90 airports, and the year before the pandemic, the airport handled 8 million travelers and more than 26 thousand flights.
He explained that Punta Cana has direct connectivity with 64 cities, among which he mentioned: New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Paris, Miami, Atlanta, Brussels, Frankfurt, Bogotá, Lima, Lisbon, London, Barcelona, Berlin, Brasilia, Moscow, and Buenos Aires.
