Hotels oriented towards medical travel
In 2015, the Hodelpa Garden Court in Santiago (north) became the first hotel offering medical travel services in the Dominican Republic.
This hotel was established as a Wellness Center where the international patients receive the benefits of a clinic with the comfort of a hotel.
“Here, in Santiago, we bet on medical travel. If we are united, it would be of great importance for the effective promotion of the services we offer in health centers, which have highly trained doctors,” said Aura Núñez de Domínguez, commercial director of Hodelpa Hotels and representative of the Hotel Association of Santiago.
The Homewood Suites by Hilton Santo Domingo would be the second hotel with features to serve travelers for medical reasons.
“Homewood Suites is strongly focused on creating adaptable prototypes that provide owners the flexibility they need to meet market demands. Entering the Caribbean, the brand paid specific attention to the communal spaces to deliver on our promise to create a unique sense of destination,” said Bill Duncan, global head, in 2015.
Last year, the Hotel Association of Santo Domingo -AHSD- and ADTS signed an inter-institutional agreement for the promotion and development of health tourism in the city of Santo Domingo.
Among the actions that define the agreement is the standardization of hotel facilities based on criteria that favor the accessibility of people with some type of disability, and the training of staff to receive health tourists.
“Through this agreement with the Dominican Association of Health Tourism, we will promote training and new tourism packages that include treatments, recovery, and stay for health tourists and their companions,” said Roberto Henríquez, president of AHSD.
