First master’s degree in medical law is crucial for health travel to the DR
The Dominican Republic has just taken an important step to improve its health travel offer internationally, with the announcement of the first master’s degree in medical law in the country.
“We consider it crucial for the improvement of the medical tourism offer that our internal market produces the key human resource for the resolution of conflicts between patients and doctors according to best practices,” said lawyer and medical law expert Gilberto Objío, in an interview with dohealthwell.
The first master’s degree in medical law in the Dominican Republic is aimed at doctors, doctors-lawyers, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, dentists, nursing graduates, bioanalysts, hospital managers, and social security professionals.
“For us at Medical Law it represents a milestone. Since 2015 we have been collaborating with several universities in the promotion of medical law,” added the legal professional.
This master’s degree is offered by the faculties of Legal and Political Sciences and Health Sciences of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), with the aim of deepening knowledge and developing skills in the exercise of the different branches of health sciences, regulated by the legal framework of the country.
The two faculties have responded to a peremptory request of doctors and other health personnel who, through the Legal Medical Plan (Plamejur) of the Dominican Medical College (CMD), raised the need to handle the medical practice and related professions within the national and international guidelines and protocols, and from a legal, biolegal and bioethical point of view.
Given the constant demands for ethical regulation and technical performance linked to the national regulatory plexus, the different professional associations understood the need to face an increasingly rigorous professional exercise and under the legal, ethical and legal control of the present time, nuanced by development Biotechnology and health sector practices.
