Airport authorities arrests a man after a bomb threat
Agents of the Specialized Corps of Airport Security and Civil Aviation (CESAC), National Investigations Department (DNI), and Defense Intelligence Division J-2, proceeded to arrest the passenger who made a fake bomb threat at Las Americas International Airport (AILA).
The detainee remains in custody and under investigation by the authorities after making a false bomb threat on a flight from Santo Domingo to San Juan Puerto Rico.
The agency responsible for airport security explained that the man, so far unidentified, will be brought to justice in the next few hours.
The airport building was placed in a state of emergency for more than an hour and a half by anti-terrorist agents, while they were assisted by security personnel and Aerodom Operations unit and through the use of canine units to review all luggage on flight travelers.
The suitcases were placed in an area of the South ramp of Las Américas, where they were carefully reviewed by the explosive expert officers, without finding any artifact.
The man appeared at AILA to board Frontier airline flight number 96 bound for San Juan Puerto Rico, whose departure was scheduled for 7:30 am on April 5th.
Military sources active in the case said the passenger, a Dominican-nationalized U.S. citizen, was handed over to the judicial authorities. The source did not reveal the name so as not to interfere with the investigations being carried out.
“For security reasons, we cannot give the passenger’s name, until the investigation is concluded, but thank God, it was a false alarm”, said an official at the airport.
