Pedro Martínez congratulates Sandy Alcántara for his Cy Young

The member of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame of the Major Leagues and winner of three Cy Young Awards, Pedro Martínez, congratulated his compatriot Sandy Alcántara on Wednesday for winning the 2022 National League Best Pitcher award.
“Super proud, super happy to see that you (Sandy) join my group and Bartolo Colón’s as the first three Dominicans to win a Cy Young, without detracting from don Juan Marichal,” said Martínez very proud.
Likewise, the native of Manoguayabo, took the opportunity to send advice to the pitcher of the Miami Marlins with a musical theme by Fernando Villalona “Dominicano Soy”.

“I am Dominican from my roots, I am not going to forget myself. This is advice Sandy that I am giving you, never forget your roots or your country,” said the eight-time All-Star.
Alcántara became the third Dominican to win this award, Pedro Martínez did it three times in 1997 with Montreal and in 1999 and 2000 with the Boston Red Sox.
Another Dominican who won the award was Bartolo Colón with the Los Angeles Angels in 2005.
Alcántara, 27, led the Majors with 228.2 innings of work and six complete games – the most in baseball in the past six years. The right-hander, who was called to his second All-Star Game this year, started 32 games (leading the Major Leagues) and had a 2.28 ERA, struck out 297 rivals and made 24 quality starts, finishing with a 14-9 record.
