Nelson Cruz announces the preliminary roster for the WBC

Manny Machado, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Juan Soto head the preliminary roster list of the team that could represent the Dominican Republic in the fifth edition of the 2023 World Baseball Classic to be held in March 2023.

The resounding names were announced by Nelson Cruz, general manager of the Dominican squad ahead of the crowded event that will bring together 20 teams.

In addition to Machado, Guerrero and Soto, the list of 50 players also includes names such as: Wander Franco, Jeremy Peña, Julio Rodríguez, Ketel Marte, Teóscar Hernández.

In the roster presented last Friday the 18th to the members of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), the names of the recently named Cy Young of the National League, Sandy Alcántara, Starling Marte, Luis Castillo, Seranthony Domínguez, Camilo Doval, Cristian Javier, Gregory Soto, Rafael Montero, Wandy Peralta, Gary Sánchez, Bryan Abre, Félix Bautista, among others.

“They are really working to form a competitive team, those names are part of some of the players that have been called up, later we will see which are the 30 that will represent the country in the expected event,” a source told EL DIA.

The Dominican squad, which will play all its games at the LoanDepot Part, formerly Marlins Park, will seek its second title in the event that will have stadiums in Tokyo, Phoenix and Miami.

They currently make up Group D along with Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Israel and Nicaragua. The ninth tricolor will have two warm-up games where they will face the Atlanta Braves in North Port on March 8 of next year and on the 9th they will face the Minnesota Twins in Lee Countrya
