Miguel Tejada is detained at the airport

Former Major League Baseball shortstop Miguel Tejada was detained Thursday at Las Américas International Airport as he was preparing to leave the country for the United States.

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) prevented Tejada, from leaving the country bound for New York City, United States.

Against Tejada, who was going to leave around 3:00PM on JetBlue flight 210, there is an alleged complaint for fraud.

The entity has an alert to prevent the former player from leaving the Dominican Republic.

Miguel Tejada was handed over to his lawyer after 4:00 in the afternoon.

In 2019, the Eighth Criminal Chamber of the National District sentenced Tejada to one year in suspended prison, after being found guilty of having breached a contract with a businessman to whom he would have delivered a bad check.

In the same way, he was sentenced to pay more than 3 million 645 thousand pesos, as well as to pay compensation of 200 thousand pesos for the damages caused to the victim.

The restriction to leave the country would be linked to this case.
