Machado, Vladdy Jr., and Soto lead the Dominican World Baseball Classic roster

The official roster of the Dominican Republic for the 2023 World Baseball Classic is completed.

The tricolor team will is composed of the following players:

Pitchers: Bryan Abreu, Sandy Alcántara, Diego Castillo, Roansy Contreras, Johnny Cueto, Camilo Doval, Jarlin Arcía, Luis García, Yimi García, Cristian Javier, José Leclerc, Rafael Montero, Héctor Neris, Gregory Soto.

Ronel Blanco, Genesis Cabrera, Enyel de los Santo, Carlos Estevez, Joel Payamps, and César Valdez are in the “designated pool.”

The offensive players are Willy Adames, Robinson Canó, Nelson Cruz, Rafael Devers, Wander Franco, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Teoscar Hernández, Eloy Jiménez, Manny Machado, Ketel Marte, Francisco Mejía, Jeremy Peña, Julio Rodríguez, Gary Sánchez, Jean Segura, and Juan Soto.

The list of includes 30 players in the leading group and another five who could enter in case of injury.

The Dominicans begin on Saturday, March 11th, against Venezuela.

The team is led by Rodney Linares, third base coach for the Tampa Rayos team.

Before Linares, the leaders were Tony Peña in the 2017 and 2013 tournaments, Felipe Rojas Alou in 2009, and Manny Acta in the first edition held in 2006.

The general manager of the Dominican team is Nelson Cruz, an active player for the San Diego Padres, becoming the first person in the history of the tournament to be an active player and manager of a national team.

Cruz joins Stanley Javier (2006 and 2009) and Moisés Alou (2013 and 2017) on the Dominican Republic manager list. All three have been outfielders in Major League Baseball.
