The 100,000 square meter complex will include three complete fields, an agility field with sports turf, indoor cages for hitters and pitchers, administrative buildings, dormitories and educational facilities.
The new Dominican academy will house more than 100 players, coaches and staff, providing dormitory-style rooms and entertainment spaces.
In addition to the great economic and labor impact it represents for the area, this investment is a testament to the good investment climate that exists in the Dominican Republic.
Upon his arrival at the site where the sports complex will be built, President Abinader was greeted by Orioles President Jhohn Angelos and Orioles Executive Vice President and General Manager Mike Elías.
The president was accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Francisco José Camacho and the mayor of the municipality of Guerra, César Rojas.
Also present were the baseball commissioner in the country, Junior Noboa; the builder of the project, Brian Mejía and several personalities linked to the sports field.
During the ceremony, President Abinader was presented with a team jersey shirt with his name on it.
Investment is a big step
The builder of the project stated that to make this dream come true and build the idea, he and his father found the Orioles an ideal ally for.
Mejía stressed that the proposed goal is to build the best academy that can be done in the Dominican Republic.
“The Baltimore Orioles are taking a big step with this investment, to seek talent in the Dominican Republic to compete again and think about the future”, Mejía said.
Increase excellence
On his side, the general manager of the Orioles thanked the support of the government led by President Abinader to promote the sport in the country.
Elías assured that the number one priority on the agenda was to increase excellence in engagement and talent development in competition in the Dominican Republic.
“In recent years other organizations have had, or a piezo of honor or have inaugurated their academies, in one way or another always in a high honor for Major League Baseball that this happens”, said Elías.
He considered that it is practically impossible to compete in the big leagues without a presence in the Dominican Republic.
Meanwhile, the Orioles president said that baseball is about uniting countries, opening borders and uniting people.
He said the Orioles have been in important venues, but none as important as the link it has with the Dominican Republic. “Nothing has the value for Major League Baseball and for the Orioles like the Dominican Republic, that bond that exists and all the wonderful things that can happen there”, Angelos said.
He pointed out that they hope to get the best in terms of talent and to be able at the same time to build relationships with non-profit organizations, with the community because they want to contribute to development beyond the field of play and for the future.

Likewise, the Sports Minister stressed that with this important work, the Orioles academy will remain permanently in the Dominican Republic.
He affirmed that the country is privileged to have academies for all 30 major league baseball teams.
“It is the second time that Major League teams are making investments in our country, due to the quality of government that has been installed, because of the transparency that is seen after this year and two months and because this government is chaired by the most important president. honest and transparent that we have had ”, added Camacho.
