Romeo Santos faces lawsuit from a nanny who accuses him of not paying overtime
Dominican bachata superstar Romeo Santos is facing a lawsuit filed by a former nanny who accuses the singer of not paying her overtime.
Marlene Jean-Louise, ex-nanny of little Benjamin, accuses the artist of not paying overtime even though her employment contract did not include meal breaks and implied that she barely slept an average of five hours at a time.
“Despite Santos’ status as a million-dollar international music star, the defendants did not pay [Jean-Louise] overtime,” court documents charged Tuesday.
According to Page Six, in the legal documents presented by the boy’s ‘nanny’, a fifty-year-old woman, she states that she worked 144 hours a week between March 2019 and March 2020 for a salary of 350 dollars per day.
Her responsibilities included caring for Romeo’s son, to whom she was close, at night, and being available 24 hours a day Monday through Sunday in case his famous employer needed her help.
The documents go on to say that Jean-Louise developed a close bond with the now 17-month-old boy, sleeping in her bedroom every night at the Bronx native singer’s Nyack home.
The former nanny “had to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entirety of her employment,” the court documents state.
Page Six reports that Jean-Louise’s attorney, Jon Bell, said her client was fired in March because the bachatero’s sentimental partner, Francelys Infante, 35, was not getting along with the babysitter.
“It is a shame that a musician of her caliber and financial resources takes advantage of a loving and caring babysitter that she entrusts to her son,” said Bell.
So far neither Romeo nor her representatives have discussed the matter.
