Romeo Santos awarded Tropical Artist of the Year at Lo Nuestro
Bachata music superstar Romeo Santos won the Premio Lo Nuestro 2021 as the “Tropical Artist of the Year”.
Meanwhile, the remix of the song “The best version of me” with the singer from Santiago Natti Natasha was the winner of the “Song of the Year – Tropical” .
The interpreter of “Centavito” did not attend the ceremony, but Natti Natasha did, who received the statuette on behalf of the two and happily announced that she is six months pregnant as a result of her relationship with the manager of her, Raphy Pina.
Dominican artist Alex Bueno won “Collaboration of the Year” based on his feature song with Santos in “Nuestro Amor”.
The Premio Lo Nuestro gala dressed up in salsa by paying tribute to the teacher Johnny Pacheco, who died at the age of 85 due to pneumonia.
The emotional live tribute was starred by the Puerto Rican sonero Gilberto Santa Rosa and the Dominican José Alberto “El Canario”, as well as the flutist Nestor Torres, and conducted by maestro Sergio George.
Before starting, the salsa singer Marc Anthony bowed to the co-founder of the Fania All Star. “Without Johnny Pacheco there would be no salsa and without salsa, I don’t know what I would be”, said the artist with a broken voice.
The show, in its 33rd edition, also had among its first acts Maluma, who with fuchsia-dyed hair performed “Agua de Jamaica”, “The bubble” and “Hawaii” with 16 dancers on a stage set in a beach style.
Later, the Colombian star won the Lo Nuestro Award for song of the year – pop for “ADMV”.
“This award represents a lot to me because I always like to do these kinds of songs, these romantic ballads,” said the urban music singer. He thanked the recognition of “this song that came from the bottom of my heart, that I composed in a pandemic and that really changed my way of thinking.”
A total of 147 artists were nominated in 34 categories and four musical genres (pop, urban music, tropical, regional Mexican), including four newly added titles: album of the year in pop, album of the year in urban music, album of the year in regional Mexican music and cumbia song of the year in regional Mexican music.
Pop star Gloria Trevi, who also received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Reggaeton player Wisin was recognized with the Excellence Award for 18 years of successful career.
Hours before the ceremony, hosted by Chiquinquirá Delgado, José Ron and Yuri, Guinness World Records certified Lo Nuestro as the longest-running awards in Latin music.
