Álvaro Morte plays Juan Sebastián Elcano, a Spanish sailor who led the expedition led by Fernando de Magallanes and who left Cádiz in August 1519 to go around the world.
The cast of the television series, which will be directed by the British Simon West, is completed by Rodrigo Santoro (Magallanes), Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Captain Cartagena), Adrián Lastra (Captain Mendoza), Carlos Cuevas (Martino), Pepón Nieto (Father Bartolomé) , Raúl Tejón (Gómez de Espinosa), Gonçalo Diniz (Duarte Barbosa), Manuel Morón (Cardenal Fonseca) and Bárbara Goenaga (Beatriz).
The fiction, which coincides with the fifth centenary of the original expedition, will have four 60-minute episodes, began shooting on April 26 in the Basque Country and Navarra in locations in Azkoitia, Azkorri, Lazkao, Olite, and the Cathedral of Pamplona.
According to sources, in the Dominican Republic, the maritime sequences will be made at the Pinewood Studios, and later they will record in Spain, specifically in Seville and Madrid.
It should be noted that Morte, 46, had announced his departure from “La Casa de Papel”, which is broadcast on Netflix’s digital platform.
In addition to “The “Professor” Álvaro Morte, other great stars of international cinema have come to the country, who decided to take advantage of the beauty and charm of the Dominican Republic to film their recordings. Among them are Jennifer Lopez, Mark Wahlberg, and Vin Diesel.
