IDB predicts the Dominican economy will be the fastest growing in LATAM
President Luis Abinader met with the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver Carone, who said that the Dominican economy is expected to be the one with the “highest growth” in Latin America and the Caribbean in the 2022.
“The meeting was about the economic growth of the Dominican Republic and particularly to support the economic management of President Luis Abinader, which we have obviously seen in difficult times…the Dominican economy last year was one of the economies that grew the most in throughout the Caribbean, with more than 12% and it is expected that this situation will repeat itself again this year”, expressed Claver Carone.
The head of the IDB stated that for this and other reasons he is working together with the head of state in the application of economic policies and other projects.
“We are also working together on important projects such as the port of Manzanillo, which is a port that is going to be able to change with the transformational panorama both for the Dominican Republic and for the entire Caribbean,” he added upon leaving the meeting that was held behind closed doors at the National Palace.
In August 2021, Abinader stated that the Manzanillo port rehabilitation and expansion project is vital to position the Dominican Republic at the highest levels of competitiveness in the entire region.
This project is carried out with an “unspecified” investment from the IDB and will also generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs.
The meeting was attended by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza; the Minister of Finance, José Manuel Vicente (Jochi); among other officials and members of the international organization.
