Prosecutors investigating the murder of the Minister of the Environment, Orlando Jorge Mera, point out that Miguel Cruz went with the intention of killing him for not having obtained the approval of environmental permits for the export of used batteries.

For the case, the authorities have the company Aurum Gavia, S.A. under investigation, given that the accused had original documents in his possession with which the permits for used batteries were requested.

“The company had applied for a permit to export five thousand tons of used batteries, but it had been rejected but had been reintroduced, the evidence shows that the accused had been trying to be granted multiple permits, but complained angrily. that they did not solve anything for him, ”says a letter deposited in court this afternoon, where the authorities request the imposition of one year of preventive detention against the accused.

The investigation against Miguel Cruz even points out that the accused had threatened, less than a month ago, the Ministry’s legal consultant, Edilio Segundo Florián Santana.

The Environment Minister was assassinated on June 6th, at the age of 55, in the ministry’s facilities, by a childhood friend.

Jorge Mera was a prominent political leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party and the Modern Revolutionary Party. His wife, Patricia Villegas, is the current Dominican ambassador to Brazil. His son Orlando Salvador Jorge Villegas is a deputy of the Republic. His sister, Dilia Leticia Jorge, is Vice Minister of the Presidency.
