The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS) reported two new positive cases for the monkeypox virus (MXV) and is following up about seven people who were in contact with the two infected people.
They ensured there is no community transmission of the disease in the country.
The Health authorities reported that the epidemiological fence was carried out with all the people close to them who have had possible contact and it was determined that none had presented symptoms of this disease, whose cases so far have been imported.
During the usual press conference, it was said that the 51-year-old female and the 19-year-old male are in isolation at the Doctor Ramón de Lara Military Teaching Hospital, under the control of MISPAS. They present a stable health picture, with follow-up by their treating doctor to guarantee their recovery.
Dr. Eladio Pérez, deputy minister of Collective Health, pointed out that the two new cases identified arose among people who had direct contact with US citizens, but are not related to the first reported case.
On his side, the medical colonel José Darío Richardson, director of the center, pointed out that both patients started with fatigue, headache, fever and general symptoms. His general condition is stable, following the treatment and protocol established for the care of the disease.
“Patients are isolated receiving adequate treatment and, with more than 90 hours of hospitalization, they are without presenting new lesions” said the first lieutenant, infectologist José Ureña Vázquez, general practitioner.
The Ministry of Health urged the population not to be alarmed and to remain attentive to the reports that will be offered in a timely manner on the hospital status of the patients.
