Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader announced that he ordered the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic to begin auditing the different government agencies.
The decision is due to the fact that the ministries, general directorates have requested a high volume of requirements that the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic is not in a position to fulfill in the time that they are demanding.
As President Abinader explained to media directors with whom he spoke during lunch in the Green Room of the National Palace, the Comptroller’s Office will resort to independent auditors who can verify or inspect in a timely manner the status of the different Executive Branch institutions.
He said that these audits are aimed at knowing the state in which public institutions were left by past authorities.
But the audits will be carried out systematically, every six months, in all government institutions, that is, the efforts of the current officials will be subject to inspection.
He said that he did not want to subject any of the officials who accompany him in his management. And it is preferable that this type of systematic expertise is done, to prevent any irregularity.
UNDP assistance
Likewise, he reaffirmed that his government will accompany the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to carry out purchases and acquisitions.
In particular, it will immediately resort to this program to purchase equipment that will be used by teachers and students in public schools, because due to its capacity and handling of procedures it constitutes a guarantee of transparency.
