Leonel Fernández calls to withdraw unconstitucional human trafficking bill

Former Dominican President Leonel Fernández asked this Sunday that the comprehensive bill on Human Trafficking, Extortion, and Illicit Smuggling of Migrants be withdrawn.

“I ask President Luis Abinader to withdraw that bill because that means a violation of the right over the Dominicans,” said Fernández.

He assured that the Dominican Republic already has a law that has to do with the protection of victims of illicit trafficking.

“Of course, we would all be aware of what has to do with human trafficking, but it turns out that there is already a law in the country that has to do with the protection of victims of human trafficking from the year 2006,” added the candidate for the Dominican presidency.

He clarified that with this bill, which is still being read, what is sought is to reform the law to prevent the deportation of those people who have irregular immigration status in the national territory.

“This bill has provoked the indignation of the Dominican people, and from this platform, I urge you to eliminate it,” said the president of the Fuerza del Pueblo party.
