Leonel Fernández advocates the use of Medicare in the Dominican Republic

The former president of Leonel Fernández expressed his wishes that retired Dominicans can use the social security and health instruments of the United States, in the Dominican Republic.
“What he could, taking his word into account, is to reach an agreement with the Federal Government of the United States, that the elderly who have been pensioned for their work in the United States can retire to the Dominican Republic and that the Medicare , Medicaid and Social Security work in the Dominican Republic,” said the former president of the Caribbean country.
Fernández made these statements while swearing in the new leaders of the Fuerza del Pueblo (People’s Force), his political party, in Florida, United States, where he pointed out that the people of the diaspora who were there, despite residing in a country with many opportunities, do so for a single reason: “because they love the Dominican Republic.”
While delivering his speech, Leonel Fernández also referred to the country’s development in democratic matters.
On this, he made reference to one of his promises from the 1996 campaign, to transform the country, while mentioning large infrastructure works that can be exhibited and that show progress and modernization.
“Little New York exists… the works that are there,” he pointed out.
