High schools soon to transform into polytechnics to generate more jobs
President Luis Abinader announced that this year 79 traditional high schools will be transformed into polytechnics in different regions of the country.
“This year 79 traditional high schools will be transformed in all regions of the country with different (technical) outputs with the orientation of regional and local socioeconomic development,” he said.
The initiative was announced by the president when he headed the launch of the program called “Improvement and Expansion of Professional Technical Education and Training in Art”, which aims to develop employability skills in young Dominicans.
The president pointed out that they will continue to transform and train the polytechnics to improve training competition.
The program will be developed jointly by the Ministry of Education (Minerd) and the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep).
For his part, the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, explained that 41 high schools with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and 38 with resources from the Minerd will be transformed.
During his speech, he indicated that each polytechnic is focused on outputs, that is, 75 optional training areas for students.
He added that the support for high schools will be focused according to proximity to the sectors with the greatest current or projected generation of jobs, such as tourist areas, free and industrial zones, commerce and others.
While the general director of Infotep, Rafael Santos BadÃa, explained that the Dual Training Program is part of the project, which will benefit 3,000 young people and will last three years.
