First Lady states there’s no deportation of children without their parents
Raquel Arbaje, first lady of the Republic, said that in the country there are no deportations of Haitian children without their parents, as stated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), in its latest report.
Arbaje said that she will meet with the agency’s authorities in the country to find out what the true number of Haitian children is.
Likewise, she stated that a report will be written in which the real conditions of the undocumented Haitian children are evidenced. Once completed and the report that Conani must develop, it will be delivered to the international organization.
Previously, Unicef reportedly said that the Dominican authorities expelled some 1,800 Haitian migrant children.
“No child has been mistreated, we are here to protect children regardless of their nationality. What could have been one or two errors? It can be, and anything is rectified, but those are not the numbers, “she said.
The Dominican Republic rejected the complaint, made Tuesday as the government intensified its crackdown on immigration in response to the cholera outbreak and gang violence in Haiti.
Arbaje made these statements after participating in the panel “threats and challenges of the family in a globalized world” organized by the Commission for Children, Adolescents and the Family of the Chamber of Deputies, where the first lady received recognition on behalf of the Abinader family .
