DR becomes a hub for cybersecurity in LATAM and the Caribbean
The idea that began to take shape in 2020 with the CyberNet project of the European Union (EU), materialized this Thursday with the installation in the country of the National Cybersecurity Center (CNCS), an entity that, in addition to serving as a teaching point, It will serve as a matrix of technological projects for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The CNCS was set up by the Ministry of the Presidency (Minpre) and the European Union (EU) at the Center of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), located in the Colonial City, will share spaces with the Center for Cyber-Capabilities of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC4).
The center will operate with three main areas: education, for the training of technicians from LA and the Caribbean; also, a training camp and a forensic laboratory, in order to prepare the State security institutions, according to César Moliné Rodríguez, director of Cybersecurity of Indotel.
In addition, it will be the basis for the EU to finance projects in Latam and the Caribbean. In other words, people from all over the region will come to Santo Domingo, “cybersecurity capital of the region,” said Moliné Rodríguez.
Prior to the assembly, seminars were organized, one was on Information Security, where 140 directors of State Technology were trained, with “the purpose that the public sector is duly protected,” said the official.
While the head of the EU delegation in the Dominican Republic, Katja Afheldt, pointed out that cybersecurity is a challenge for all the nations of the world, therefore, in order to be successful in defending people and companies, it is necessary to work together.
“The European Union can learn from the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and vice versa. I am grateful that projects like LAC4 are thinking about the future and helping to build bridges to share cyber knowledge”, she indicated.
